The RIBA Journal

A big thank you to the RIBA for inviting me to collaborate on this article. It was a pleasure to share insights on how architects can take a structured approach to their professional growth.

Many of us set New Year’s resolutions, but without a clear plan, they often fade. A personal development plan (PDP), on the other hand, provides a structured way to reflect on skills and gaps, set achievable goals, and track progress over time.

Much like a business plan, a PDP is about growth and increasing value - such as helping individuals develop their leadership, communication, or management skills in a way that benefits both them and their practice.

Having a clear pathway makes all the difference in turning aspirations into real, lasting progress.
